Police on right track in bid to hit recruitment target

-

THE borough’s police force say they are on course to hit their recruitment target as part of a government drive.

Cheshire Constabulary, which covers

Macclesfield, is aiming to recruit 2,345 officers as part of the government’s ‘Uplift’ programme, a pledge that they would recruit an additional 20,000 police officers in England and Wales by March 31, 2023.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, said: “Both the Chief Constable of Cheshire and I want to make Cheshire a hostile place for criminals, whilst making the county a safer place to live, work and visit.

“I am committed to ensuring Cheshire gets its fair share of the 20,000 new officers that the Government is looking to add to the policing family.

“I am pleased to reveal that we are on track to achieve our target by March 2023. The Constabulary have recently opened their recruitment window, and I would encourage anyone who is looking to start their policing career to have a look on the Constabulary website.”

The number of police officers in England and Wales actually fell by 20,600 between March 2010 and March 2019, down to 123,200 officers.

Deputy Chief Constable Julie Cooke said: “We are delighted to be continuing with our recruitment programme in order to ensure we have the officers we need to both keep our streets safe and provide the best possible service to the public of Cheshire.

“We want great officers and we also encourage individuality. We’re committed to recruiting people from a wider range of backgrounds and experiences and helping them to progress in their careers with us.

“By joining Cheshire Constabulary you can help make a difference to the way we police - simply by being the individual that you are. You will become part of a caring policing family where you can be you.”
