MACCLESFIELD TOWN LADIES FC

MACCLESFIELD Town Ladies FC hosted their first girls’ grassroots football tournament and it proved a huge success.

A total of 36 teams, more than 350 young players, dedicated organisers and many volunteers all joined together to make event come together.

“With this being our first ever tournament, we were so pleased how well it went,” said Macclesfield Town Ladies Football Club Chairman David Hubbard.

“We took advantage of the large grassed area at the Macclesfield Academy to set up 7 pitches. Each pitch hosted a different age group and allowed space for lots of spectators to participate and watch within Covid guidelines.

“The tournament was set-up within three weeks and we couldn’t have been done without the dedication of the organisers and fantastic parent volunteers.

“Also, a special mention to Sphere UK for sponsoring all the print materials and Macclesfield Academy for being brilliant hosts”

“We are most proud of the girls, aged 9 – 15, who travelled from Merseyside, Staffordshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester to take part. There was some brilliant football and lots of smiling faces, obviously all enjoying the game and the weather, and just being with their friends”.

The feedback received already has been extremely positive.

Billy Meakin from Port Vale U15 team said: “It was one of the very best organised tournaments we have been to and a massive thanks to everyone involved in putting it on, we loved it.”

Macclesfield Town Ladies now hope to hold this tournament annually, and if they can achieve this success in three weeks, it will be interesting to see what next year’s tournament looks like!

With girls’ football on the rise and interest in watching women’s football becoming more popular, it is a great opportunity to showcase our very own local grassroots girls’ football clubs.
