THE Silkmen stormed into the next round of the Emirates FA Cup, with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Burscough.

After the visitors had forced a flurry of corners in the opening couple of minutes, Macc broke the deadlock with just three minutes on the clock. Tom Clare raced through the Burscough defence, before sliding the ball past Joseph Waugh and into the empty net.

The Linnets looked for an immediate reaction and Ben Pierce was forced into a smart save to deny Daniels’ low twenty-yard drive a minute later, before Peter Henerty flashed a curling effort wide of the far post.

Kielen Adams and Clare then had efforts blocked in the six-yard box following a blistering counter-attack as Macc looked to double their advantage.

In the 14th minute Aaron Dwyer showed a deft turn of pace as he raced down the right, before seeing his low cross agonisingly evade Clare at the far post.

Danny Whitaker’s side did not have to wait long to extend their lead however, as in the 20th minute Aaron Fleming’s pinpoint cross from the left was powerfully headed in by the advancing Dwyer.

With Whitaker imploring his side not to sit back from the sidelines, Macc continued to look in devastating form and could well have added a third in the 25th minute when Dwyer’s corner from the left was headed inches over the bar by Laurent Mendy.

With debutant James Berry-McNally orchestrating the midfield, Macc continued to look a threat and would claim a welldeserved third on the half-hour mark when

Dwyer’s free-kick from the edge of the area took a wicked deflection on its way into the far corner of the net.

Burscough then subjected the Macc defence to a number of speculative efforts as they looked to reduce the arrears, but it was the hosts who continued to look the most potent.

In the 38th minute Berry-McNally’s innovative through ball sent Clare through on goal, yet after taking the ball over the advancing Waugh, pandemonium broke out as the Burscough defenders bravely cleared two venomous efforts off the line to prevent a fourth.

Kielen Adams then had his powerful drive deflected wide of goal by Daniel Brady, before the resultant corner was acrobatically headed home by Ekow Coker.

The second period began in an unfamiliar fashion, with neither ‘keeper tested in the opening exchanges. The first real chance of note came in the 63rd minute, when Coker connected with Aaron Dwyer’s tantalising cross from the right-yet he could only send his header over Waugh’s bar from ten yards out.

With twenty minutes left on the clock Aaron Fleming his a rasping low drive just wide of the far post and six minutes later, Mendy warmed the hands of the visiting ‘keeper with an effort from the edge of the penalty area.

The half was to spark into life in the 83rd minute when a Burscough forward was impeded in the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot.

Vincent Bailey stepped up and hammered a low drive to Pierce’s right, yet it was phenomenally kept out and the four-goal lead kept intact.
