Sporty heroes line up for awards
THE sporty shortlist has been revealed for the Everybody Awards 2021 and there’s plenty of Macclesfield interest.
The annual event takes place on October 15 and honour those who have enjoyed success in or made a large contribution to sport and recreation in Cheshire East.
Awards will be handed out across eight categories with Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson the host.
In the sports personality of the year category Joseph Loake, 16, has been shortlisted.
He competes in the British Formula 4 Championship following a successful two years in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championships.
Joining him as a nominee is fellow Macc sportsman Matthew Rigby, who takes part in obstacle course racing and is a member of Macclesfield Rundamentalists.
Georgia Mallia, from Space4Autism, a charity based on Mill Lane, has been shortlisted for the health and wellbeing award.
And Macclesfield Netball Club is in the running in the club of the year section.
The awards have been organised by the charity Everybody Sport and Recreation and take place at Crewe Hall.
Andrew Kolker, from the charity, said: “Even though the pandemic has had a huge impact on sport over the last 12 months, the nominations from our local sporting heroes and organisations showed the exceptional dedication, innovation and true community spirit of our Cheshire East nominees to still achieve success and support and inspire others.
“We couldn’t be prouder of all the nominees this year and cannot wait to celebrate.”
