Silkmen kick off new era in style

-

I was driving home via Moss Lane on Monday just after Macclesfield FC kicked off their local derby with Congleton.

There was a long queue still waiting in line hoping to get into the ground.

In all the years I’ve lived in Macclesfield I’ve never witnessed so many supporters. I believe the game was a total sell-out and Macclesfield’s ultimate 1-0 victory took them to the top of their league.

The amazing renovation of Moss Rose has made a massive difference to the area. It no longer looks like the rundown shambolic football club it was under its previous owner. People want to go and I’m one of them.

As most of you know I am a life-long Manchester City fan and watch every game on Sky/BT/ Amazon but I’m very excited about the future of Macclesfield FC. I often hear the crowd roaring when I’m passing by and I want to be part of it.

I realise for residents living close by it creates parking difficulties, and I promise if I get the season ticket I’m hoping for I will walk to the ground.

Supporters of the old Macclesfield Town were known for their good humour and I do hope that reputation carries forward with the new club.

What the new owners do not want is idiots causing trouble and driving families away when they have put so much money and effort into giving the town a wonderful new facility. I rarely go by without there being some sporting activity taking place.

This development will put Macclesfield back on the national map, creating a lot of media interest.

Let’s make sure it is for all the right reasons and not for ignorant louts causing trouble. Macclesfield needs this facility and all the positive press it can create.

Let’s hear some creative humour on the terraces singing loud and clear and making us proud again.
