Seven years down the road, still no road

-

YOU will excuse me if I omit names from this article. Whilst I wish to inform you, I do not want to give my editor sleepless nights.

I read a report yesterday of a large estate of new houses (not in Macclesfield) where residents had been fighting for SEVEN years to get the developer to finish off roads, pavements and other essential work.

Despite the local MP and council adding weight to the residents’ call for completion, no work has been carried out.

Numerous promises to keep residents informed by the developer were not forthcoming and hundreds of families have been left with a half-finished estate that no amount of negotiations appears to resolve.

As it wasn’t in our town I decided to forget the story, but I just couldn’t do it.

With the enormous number of new builds going on around us we need to be very wary before we buy. This is where the internet can be useful in tracing the track record of your proposed builder.

Large numbers of dissatisfied owners tend to make a loud noise on social media which can be a useful guideline of what you can expect from your developer.

Your home is your largest asset and you certainly don’t want to be waiting seven years to have the basic infrastructure completed.

Who is going to buy a house on that estate now?

I was shocked by what I read because the residents had acted responsibly and called on every authority in the area to help them out, with absolutely no response from the developer whatsoever.

Tread carefully my friends - buying a house is a huge commitment.
