Exciting times as training returns

-

AT LAST after 18 months of uncertainty we are finally able to restart training indoors this week.

We are all very excited to be welcoming puppies and Intermediate dogs back into The Victory Hall, our favourite venue.

I need to be careful as I’m apt to fall in love with all those new puppies and become a dog collector instead of a trainer.

It’s been a long hard slog this past 18 months constantly swapping and changing our classes to comply with all the restrictions, but finally here we are and ready to go.

If your puppy or dog has not been to an indoor class before be prepared for his excitement.

Meeting a group of dogs for the first time in an enclosed space is likely to get him all pumped up so dealing with that will be our first lesson.

Some pups may be nervous so guess what? That will be our second lesson.

If I’m honest I’m probably going to get excited myself.

It’s been a long wait. My trainers are champing at the bit to get started so it should be an interesting class.

Walking on the lead will be high on the list of priorities along with jumping up.

We will spend some time on how to meet and greet other people and dogs and show you a few ‘magic’ tricks we’ve learned over the years.

Titbits are important in puppy training but please do not use your dog’s ordinary food bring something special eg cheese, chicken or hot-dog sausages sliced up. We want your puppy to work for his treats so please don’t feed him before you come.

The excitement and nervousness your dog feels on the first evening will soon settle down as he gets used to the experience and his confidence (and yours) will grow with every class.

He will be very tired at the end of class so be prepared for some snoring…zzzzzzz.
