Labour calls on Tory MPs to tell Boris to go

- ALEX SCAPENS

LABOUR councillors have written to Conservative MPs including David Rutley demanding they call for the resignation of Boris Johnson.

The group, of which Councillor Brian Puddicombe, for Macclesfield South is one, says the Prime Minister is ‘dragging the highest office in the land into the gutter’.

They also call for Chancellor Rishi Sunak to be given his marching orders.

It follows the news that both had been issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for attending parties at the height of the first Covid-19 lockdown.

In last week’s Macclesfield Express Macclesfield MP Mr Rutley said he had concerns about what happened at Downing Street during lockdown and it was right that the PM and Chancellor apologised.

But he also backed Mr Johnson to continue in his role, particularly with the challenges of the war in Ukraine and recovery from the pandemic on the agenda.

The Cheshire East Labour councillors are now calling for Mr Rutley and other Tory MPs in the borough to ‘put their country before their party and submit a letter of no confidence in the Prime Minister’. Coun Puddicombe said: “Enough is enough. Boris Johnson is dragging the highest office in the land into the gutter.

“Many Tory MPs have been lying low up to this point under the guise of waiting for the outcome of Prime Minister the police investigation. Chancellor.
