Hole in one on way to victory for Jane

TYTHERINGT­ON Golf Club members were inspired by The Masters as they played their weekend competitio­ns.

Jane Ambler was the star of the show in the ladies section posting a great haul of 39 points which included a hole in one on the 145 yard par three fifth hole.

Her nearest challenger was Jill Hone with 34.

Steve Orme won the men’s division oneWhite Tee Stableford with 38 and Steven Webb led in the Yellow Tee with 36, In division two David More O’Farrell was first past the post with a great score of 42

No green jackets for the Winners!

The monthly Stableford at Alderley Edge had Drew Roberts top of division one with 35 and in division two Jordan Foden was red hot with 41.

Justine Jackson was the ladies winner with 40, three more than Aileen Martin.

The Captains Charity Stableford at Avro was won by Neil Flood with 41 from Chris Robinson 40 and Ian Hallworth 38.

A Midweek Stableford at Avro was won by Phil Normanton with 37, one more than Michael McDonagh and Gareth Roberts.

A Stableford for Avro ladies had Wendy Roberts leading in with 37, one more than Nikki Hale and Sylvia Christelow.

Davenport’s men were in singles Stableford action and top of the divisions were Archie Palmer 37, Philip Griffiths 35, David Stock after a cpo on 37 with Philip Cross and Gary McGovern with a commanding 41.

A Midweek medal at Mottram Hall had Eddie Gaffney top of the shop with 37, two less than

Gary Jacques and Andrew Brechin.

A Foursomes Greensome for Macclesfie­ld ladies was won by Chris Gleaves and Jean Atherton with a massive 46 taking them well clear of Sue Orwin and Sue Lawton 34 and Julia Dunne and Hilary Elsworth 32.

Chris has been struggling with her game recently but was advised to go back to her old hockey swing and what a difference it made!

Macc seniors played their April medal and in a nerve-jangling finish Robin Saunders won a cpo on 68 from Paul Barber and hot on their heels with 69 were James Jones, Don Bayley, Anthony Harris and Ken Brown.

Prestbury’s men played their Coronation Foursomes qualifier and M Prescott and P Allen won a cpo on 71.0 from B and G Purves and M Robertson and M Keates 72.

Prestbury ladies played a singles Stableford for the Grannies Trophy and leading in the two divisions were Caroline Harrison Croft 36 and

Kate Wilkinson 36.

Styal Ladies enjoyed a Team Fun Day and none more than the hot trio of S Middleton, C Buxton and D O’Reilly who were in a league of their own with 74, ten more than A Holohan, P Harmston and S Harrison.

The Wednesday Stableford at Styal was much closer with Mark Window winning a cpo on 34 from Zoe Evans and next in on 33 were Charlie Bradley and Tom Bate.

Styal seniors were in medal mode and Colin Fellowes led in with 67 from Steve Weaver 68 and Mark Woodhead, Michael O’Donovan and Richard Armstead all 69.

The Marriott Worsley Park Hotel and Golf Club have been great supporters of the Manchester Alliance since they opened well over 20 years ago and they again put on a great course and off-course hospitalit­y for another full Manchester Alliance field.

They had to cope with some typical April weather of sunshine, showers and strong winds but enjoyed greens in great condition with most of the sections going to the wire to decide the prize winners.

Alliance legend Craig Corrigan showed his ever-present skills to win the individual pro section with 39, one more than OoM leader Jamie Howarth (Davenport) and Dave Smith (Worsley).

It was also close in the pro am section with Andy Palmer (Chorley) getting great support from his Stamford partner Paul Barlow to lead in with 45 from Martyn Hamer (Davyhulme Park) and Charles Marsh (Worsley Marriott) 44 and Craig Corrigan and Joe Manfredi (Regent Park) and the old firm of Dave Smith and Jimmy O’Reilly (Ellesmere), both 43.

It was even hotter in the am am section with three pairs locked on 43.

Getting the nod in the cpo were Mike Fenton (Styal) and Don Milligan (Ashton-on-Mersey) from Stamford duo Martin Dwyer and Steve Finan and Alistair Holloway (Denton) and Anthony Kenny (Prestwich).

Completing the prizes was Haigh Hall’s Alan Crompton with the neatest the pin win.

Sponsoring the day was Denton and Lancashire legend Bob Bardsley (Footjoy) who was joined by his former Lancashire team star Steve Hamer and home club’s Steve Hindle and Alan Bowerbank.
