Trip to forget for firsts but seconds shine

LANGLEY 1st XI made the long trek to Bunbury at the weekend and came out second best in all department­s.

The home side won the toss and asked Langley to bat.

Once again Langley got off to a poor start, Abid Hussain (5) was caught at deep cover, Chris Pattison (2) was bowled by a ball that moved away, Saj Ali (5) miscued to point and when Matty Nicholls (29) was LBW Langley were reduced to 42/4.

Zak Howdle steadied the ship, the duo added 71 in 10 overs before Howdle (28) was caught behind.

The middle order then fell away in disappoint­ing style. Marsden (48) played on, Mal Singh (8) was caught behind, Sunny Malik (8) chipped to midwicket and Iain Mclellan (6) was bowled leaving

Langley on 154 for 9. Credit to Mo Faisal who then hit 25 in one over in a last wicket stand of 36 with David Frame. Faisal (41) was caught behind in the final over as Langley were all out for 190.

Bunbury got off to a solid start adding 26 before Farrington (4) was caught behind by Marsden off the bowling of Singh.

Wood and Munson both looked in good and took the score to 73, Munson (40) was caught off the bowling off Ali and when Ball (1) fell in the same manner Bunbury were 85/3.

Wood and Lamb then took the game away from Langley, Wood was dropped at mid off and Lamb edged a catch to the keeper but it was not given.

Wood perished on 94, caught in the deep but Bunbury strolled to 197/4 off 41 overs.

For Langley Ali 2/56 off 11 overs, Singh 1/35 off 11 overs, Malik 1/63 off 10 overs, Frame

0/17 off 6 overs and Faisal 0/24 off 3 overs toiled away.

Langley dropped to seventh place.

Langley 2s faired much better at home to Appleton.

Appleton posted 108/6 off 40 overs Anderson 2/8 off 10 overs bowled superbly.

In reply Langley reached their target comfortabl­y losing just 3 wickets. Dan Wilkinson Hall 40no and his uncle and winning skipper Terry Wilkinson Hall 37 and Ricky Hughes 25no.
