Exciting duo in to bolster Macc

-

MACCLESFIELD FC have added two stellar signings to Danny Whitaker’s roster for the 2022/23 Northern Premier League West Division campaign.

The club’s first summer signing was former Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and England youth international defender Zeki Fryers.

The 29-year-old arrives at the Leasing.com Stadium after agreeing terms ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and brings a wealth of experience with him.

Progressing through the youth ranks at United, Fryers forged his way into the first team at Old Trafford, before signing a twoyear contract at Belgian side Standard Liege back in 2012.

Fryers then returned to England in order to sign for Tottenham Hotspur, before moving across London to join Crystal Palace on a three-year contract in September 2013.

During his time at Selhurst Park, he made 14 appearances for The Eagles, as well as enjoying loan moves at Championship sides, Rotherham United and Ipswich Town respectively.

In the summer of 2017, Fryers then made the move to Barnsley where he made thirty-one appearances for The Tykes over a two-year period.

Transferring to Swindon Town in the summer of 2019, Fryers helped the Wiltshire side claim the Sky Bet League Two title – making twenty-five appearances during what proved to be a memorable season for The Robins.

During the 2020/21 season, he made eleven further appearances for the Sky Bet League One side before being released at the end of his contract.

Fryers spent last season at eventual National League champions Stockport County, and National League South side, Welling United.

Shortly after putting pen to paper, Zeki stated: “I am delighted to join Macclesfield FC and cannot wait for the new season to begin.

“There was interest from clubs in higher divisions – but once I became aware that Macclesfield was interested in me, it really was a no-brainer to sign as the journey that they have been on so far has been remarkable.

“To play in front of so many fans and within these amazing facilities is something that excites me greatly and pre-season cannot come quick enough.

“I would like to thank all those involved for their faith in me and can assure everyone that I will give everything I have to ensure that we all enjoy another successful campaign.”

The club also announced the arrival of forward Tre Pemberton, who has joined from Northern Premier League side, Stafford Rangers.

The 23-year-old has agreed an initial one-year contract at the Leasing. com Stadium – with the club having the option to extend this by a further twelve months.

Pemberton began his career at Blackburn Rovers, where he progressed through the youth ranks all the way up to Under-18 level.

Whilst at Ewood Park, Tre caught the eye of Stoke City and would ultimately sign for The Potters in 2017.

A key member of the Under-23s squad, Tre enjoyed two fruitful years at the bet365 Stadium, before joining FC United of Manchester in 2019.

After two seasons that were decimated by the Covid-19 pandemic, Tre then made the move to Marsten Road.

Pemberton made twenty appearances for Stafford in all competitions and we are delighted that he has agreed to join The Silkmen ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Meanwhile, Macclesfield FC’s Summer Cup Tournament will be held at the Leasing.com Stadium between June and August this year.

After the hugely successful previous events, the club is now going bigger and better with what promises to be the best tournament yet.

From under-8s all the way through to open age, there is a tournament for everyone – with the first competitions to be held during the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend. around
