Club challenge aims to get people on the move
A COUNTRY club is aiming to get people moving for the Commonwealth Games, in aid of Sport Relief.
The Tytherington Club, a country club on Dorchester Way, is taking part in the Move 22 challenge to coincide with the Commonwealth Games.
Members and nonmembers of the club are encouraged to move 22 miles over the 12 days of the Commonwealth games between July 28 and August 8.
Wellness manager Rebecca Jackson said those taking part can do as little or as much as they want each day.
She said: “People up and down the country are taking part so I thought it would be a good idea to do it at the club and get the members involved and moving.
“It’s just about increasing activity, you can do anything. I thought it’s a good way to be creative and raise a bit of money for Sport Relief.
“I saw it and thought it would be a good thing for us to take part in. You can do it all in one go or a little bit each day so that way it’s all inclusive.”
Rebecca added there is a sign up sheet in the club’s gym for members to record their distances each day, while nonmembers can also take part and donate online.
She said the initiative was all about ‘inclusivity.’
“With the members here there’s quite a ranging demographic so sometimes when people see challenges they get worried that they can’t do it or complete it but this is quite achievable and they can do something they enjoy,” Rebecca said.
“Exercise doesn’t have to be coming to the gym and running on a treadmill or something a bit boring, they can move anyway they want. They can cartwheel 22 miles!
“It’s also encouraging people to be social with it as well by recording their miles on Strava and uploading it to social media.
