Prestbury are kings of Castle

PRESTBURY travelled to the picturesqu­e venue at Cholmondel­ey Castle to face top of the table Cholmondel­ey firsts and were asked to bat by the home side.

Prestbury skipper Steve Oldfield, back after 10 weeks out with injury, opened the batting with Rahul Mehta but Oldfield was bowled for 8 , with the score on 21 Mehta was also bowled so two new batsmen Rishi Mehta and George Brindley took the score to 46 in the 16th over but unfortunat­ely Mehta was caught for 17.

Brindley and Will Worswick took the score to 90 and were looking to develop a partnershi­p when Worswick was bowled for 36. Over the next 5 overs the Prestbury batting fell apart loosing 6 wickets for 7 runs some rash shots undid the position Prestbury had got to.

After a barbecue tea, Prestbury knew they had to get early wickets and Ridley Partridge struck in his second over and Cholmonele­y were 0 for 1 , but it took till the score was 32 for Worswick to get a wicket. He struck again with the score on 64, but opener Jude had already reached his 50, Worswick was bowling well and took two more wickets to reduce Cholmonele­y to 70 for 5 but with a low total to defend the only other wicket to fall was to Sumon Ahmed with only 2 runs needed for victory which was achieved with Jude 76 not out. Prestbury wicket takers were Partridge 1 for 34 Ahmed 1 for 24 and Worswick 7overs 4 for 13.

The Prestbury seconds hosted Haslington and ran out winners by 62 runs. Prestbury skipper Gabor Simon won the toss and decided to bat and in 40 overs Prestbury posted 271 for 7, Reid 20, Santi 43,

Shake 56 and Tayef 83, Haslington were all out in the 39th over for 209, Prestbury wicket takers Yass 2 for 41, Reid 2 for 30, Adal 3 for 26 and Tayef 3 for 7, Prestbury seconds still in fourth place. The thirds won at Cheadle Hulme by 62 runs, Prestbury batting highlights Adam Partridge 44, Alastair Knight 46 and Sumon 67 out of a total of 226, headle Hulme were 164 when their 35 overs were completed.
