Parks make their mark with wild best shows

-

ANYONE who spends much time in our parks will have seen the great work carried out by the volunteers, rangers and gardeners.

South Park now has an astonishing display of wild flowers. Look, I know they are ‘wild’ but they don’t just grow themselves.

Give some credit to ‘Mark at the Park’ and his team who strive to present the park at its absolute best throughout the year. (Probably great work in summer when the sun is shining, not so great picking up litter on a cold wet windy February morning).

Take yourself on a trip to Tegg’s Nose.

If you haven’t been before you will be flabbergasted. Standing at the top you will see views worthy of Canada. I’m not exaggerating…honest.

Take your walking shoes and explore the terrain - it is magnificent. When you return to the car park call in at the café for tea and cakes. How good would that be?

From spring onwards, you will see Longhorn cattle grazing along Riverside Park. It’s a great place to walk your pooch, and the cattle are so familiar with the intrusion they rarely look up.

Bollington Recreational Ground is another brilliant place to take the kids with enough open space to play half-a dozen games of cricket at the same time, plus another glorious café.

You have to hand it to Cheshire East and their hard-working teams; we do have some great parks, most of which were bequeathed to the public by rich, successful Victorians who realised the benefits of sharing the land with nature.

The people who work on these parks must feel enormously proud and so they should. I wonder how they feel about the destruction of Danes Moss? What sort of response will there be when all the badger sets and wildlife habitats disappear under a JCB?

It might be a good idea to consider that while CEC are doing a wonderful job preserving and improving our parks they are simultaneously planning the demise of one of the finest and rarest wild life habitats in Cheshire.

Something amiss there, don’t you think?
