No drama as Sharma guides fourths home

-

MACCLESFIELD 4s welcomed Haslington 3s to Parkside and were looking to make it 3 wins from 3.

Macc won the toss and elected to bowl but Haslington openers Dave France and Richard Pickford started well despite the efforts of Matt Cunningham and Ollie Mitchell who were unable to get the breakthrough.

As the old saying goes, bad bowling (or something similar) gets wickets and it was no different on this occasion when, in the 10th over, Cunningham bowled a full toss that should have been dispatched into the hospital but instead managed to bowl Pickford who chopped the ball onto his stumps leaving Haslington 27/1. Mitchell followed up by bowling France with an excellent delivery which put Macc in the ascendancy.

Haslington batters decided to attack and put pressure back on the bowlers, yet fellow junior bowlers Harry Boyd and Jacob Tidswell kept their line and length and were soon rewarded with a number of quick wickets.

A run out from Boyd and catches from Aneesh Raveendran and

Mitchell as well as a stumping from lightning hands Aryaman Sharma meant that Haslington were bowled out for 78 after 24 overs. Tidswell finished with figures of 4/27, Boyd 2/12,

Mitchell 2/16 and Cunningham 1/16.

Macc didn’t waste any time in chasing their target and the tone was set with Robbie

Jennings hitting the first ball for a boundary.

Leading run scorer Aju played a typically attacking innings scoring 26 alongside Tom Jennings who scored 14.

However, it was opener Sharma’s controlled innings of 22* that saw Macc home after 10 overs handing them a 6 wicket victory. The 4s travel to promotion chasing Over Peover seconds this Saturday.
