‘Heroes’ praised for coming to stab victim’s aid
POLICE, medics and members of the public have been hailed as heroes after coming to the aid of a man who suffered multiple stab wounds.
The incident, in Macclesfield on Saturday night, August 27, has left the 62-year-old in a serious condition.
He was discovered on Crompton Close with numerous injuries to his body and neck and was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital where he underwent treatment.
Police have charged a man, 21, with section 18 assault and he will appear in court next month.
Officers and North West Ambulance staff (NWAS) were called to the scene at around 11.45pm and found members of the public already helping the victim.
Sergeant Robert Simpson, from the Cheshire Rural Crime Team, was among those to attend.
He said: “I can’t comment on the case bit but what I can talk about is
the amazing work by the police and the public at the location.
“What I saw were real heroes at work.
“The public that were there when we arrived, the two young in service police officer giving hands on critical first aid.
“Our friends from NWAS were brilliant too. I cannot praise them enough, they were amazing.”
Police launched an investigation into the
incident and appealed for information or CCTV footage relating to it.
Detective Sergeant Kate Palin, of Macclesfield local policing unit, said: “A number of enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances. A scene is in place on Crompton Road and I am encouraging residents within the vicinity who may have CCTV or dash cam footage that shows the assault shortly before and after it
occurred to contact us.
Mayor of Macclesfield Fiona Wilson said: “We are fortunate in Macclesfield that this type of thing is very rare, when you hear about it your thought are with the family and friends of the person injured. What the people of Macclesfield want to know is what is behind it. It is a shocking incident.
“It is unclear at the moment exactly what has happened and I would urge anyone with information, CCTV or doorbell camera footage relating to this distressing incident to come forward.”
Thomas Coppock, of Crompton Road, Macclesfield, has been charged with section 18 wounding with intent and two counts of common assault.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court on September 10.
