VEG STALL MADNESS

-

I WAS appalled to read in the Macclesfield Express that Sutton Village Store’s veg stall has been refused planning permission even though no objections have been received from residents or public bodies.

This store has been a godsend during Covid and continues to be the hub of the community to this day

The same planning department that want to remove the veg stall will however allow 350

houses to be built on green belt land at Lyme Green despite hundreds of objections from locals and public bodies!!

Watch in horror as ancient hedgerows and trees are felled to make way for this development.

Why not dig up a peat bog while you are at it.

There are residents who would not leave their homes most days if it wasn’t for the village store.

The chance to buy a paper or shop for fruit and veg gives people the chance to meet neighbours, have a chat

in the queue or just talk to the lovely staff who run the shop.

It may be the only social interaction people have on a daily basis.

Also from memory the stall was built on a small section of grass so there were never 13 car parking spaces, there have only ever been six spaces for cars.

So what is the alternative if the veg stall is removed?

I suppose we will have to jump on a bus or into a car (if you have one), burn expensive fuel and add to the congestion on the poorly maintained

roads. Drive to a faceless supermarket to buy pre-packed fruit and veg in plastic trays wrapped in plastic packaging while being directed to self service checkouts,

I know which I would chose.

Absolute madness, save the veg stall.
