Phone mast gets approval
AS dozens of residents prepare to fight plans for a phone mast in Tytherington another from the same company has been given permission just a mile away.
EE has been told it can site a 20m pole, with two antennas and two dishes, on a footpath at Beech Lane.
The mast would be used for 4G and in time 5G services, particularly by rail passengers as the West Coast Mainline passes through this part of Macclesfield.
No objections were raised by residents and
Cheshire East Council gave the go-ahead, saying any harm to the area’s character and appearance would be outweighed by improvements to a ‘vital network that provides public services’.
This is in stark contract to EE’s bid for a phone mast at Dorchester Way, on the other side of Tytherington, where around 80 residents have objected.
For the approved mast, EE says the site has been chosen as it is near a pylon and existing phone equipment so would be less visually intrusive.
The company commissioned a report by consultants Harlequin for both sites.
The one for Beech Lane said: “(The mast) is predominantly to address a gap in EE coverage and provide improved coverage for travellers on the adjacent section of railway line.
“In addition, enhanced coverage will be provided to EE’s network in this area including residents, visitors, and businesses.
“Without this installation, there would be an adverse impact on those that rely on this vital service and coverage from an economic, social and environmental perspective.”
The mast at Dorchester Way is also predominantly for coverage on trains but they would benefit residents and businesses, says EE.
