Third win on spin for flying Prestbury

- PRESTBURY CC BY BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY firsts hosted Burton firsts and after winning the toss the Burton skipper decided to bat.

With the score at 15 Will Worswick got the breakthrough with the wicket of Giles caught by Stu Costello for 7.

The other opener fell LBW to Sumon Ahmed for 8 and Prestbury were off to a good start.

Prestbury skipper Steve Oldfield brought Alex Insley on to bowl and the spinner struck in his first and second overs, with Bradley LBW and G.Corner caught Ahmed.

Burton were now in trouble at 53 for 4 and with a double bowling change Tom Nelson took 3 wickets in 3 overs with Brindley catching Daniels for 6 and Insley catching Powell for 0, and I Corner caught by wicket keeper Max Cowling Jones for 0.

The Burton score was 53 for 7 and soon they were 8 down as Nelson took his fourth wicket Tate LBW for 0.

Burton recovered to 93 for 8 but Ahmed brought back into the attack had D.Moffitt caught by Rahul Mehta for 15, and soon the Burton innings closed at 95 all out with Worswick bowling Davies for 0.

Prestbury wicket takers were Ahmed 2 for 31, Worswick 2 for 24, Insley 2 for 4 off 5 overs and Nelson 4 for 27.

Prestbury openers Adam Phillips and Oldfield got the score moving quickly on to 45 but Phillips was bowled for 30, with the score at 61 Oldfield was out for 18 but the game was in control for Prestbury and other than the loss of Mehta for 7, Jake Ogden 31 not out and George Brindley 7 not out, Brindley hitting a six to win the game in the 19th over, a third win on the trot for Prestbury firsts.

The seconds travelled to Aston seconds and Prestbury skipper Gabor Simon won the toss and batted, their total of 139 all out was below par, with Gabor 44 and Nick Taylor 24, so tight bowling and good fielding was required and Prestbury did just that restricting Aston to 137 for 9 in the full 40 overs.

It must be noted that Andrew Worswick saved at least 25 runs with superb fielding and the bowling by Abbi Lamidey 6 overs 4 maidens 1 for 7, supported by Rahul 1 for 27.

Peter and Caleb Riley who between then with catches and wickets accounted for 6 Ashton wickets, Yassin had to bowl the last over with 8 runs needed but Aston fell short by 2 runs.

What a nail biter, well done to the whole team.
