Duo’s triple peak tribute to parents
ABROTHER and sister who lost both parents to cancer are climbing three mountains in a day in their memory.
Harry and Lydia Cowell, 22 and 24, from Marton, will tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on September 24 to raise money for the Christie.
It will involve almost 25 miles of walking and more than 5,500ft of assent.
Their dad Adam died in 2017, aged 51, after a yearlong battle with aggressive lymphoma and mum Julie, 56, passed away last year from secondary breast cancer.
Both were treated at the
Christie, which opened a site in Macclesfield last December.
Lydia, who works for the Environment Agency, said: “My parents were both treated with such care and respect by the staff.
“In addition to the care they had at the hospital, the team also made sure they could both be at home for their final days.
“That meant the world to us. Being a younger person who has experienced loss, especially a loss like ours, can feel very isolating. Doing this challenge gives us a way of talking about our parents while also giving back to the Christie.“
Harry, a dairy farmer, said: “I saw a poster for the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and thought that it’d be a perfect challenge
for us as we love walking.
“We’ll be taking on three mountains and walking around 25 miles across the day. It’s going to be really tough, but I know we’ll smash it.“
The pair have set up a justgiving page and have already raised more than £1,300 - their original target was £300.
Josh Hughff, from the Christie, added: “I want to wish Harry and Lydia all the best for their epic hike. They’re both so passionate about the Christie and we’re really grateful that they’ve chosen to fundraise for us.”
