ABOOK containing treasured recipes by the late Great British Bake-off finalist Luis Troyano will be sold to raise charity money.

Luis, from Poynton, created My Little Black Book of Baking before he sadly lost his battle with oesophageal cancer in October 2020 aged 48.

It contains his favourite recipes and techniques and was written during his long bouts of chemotherapy.

His widow Louise, under instructions she received from Luis, put the content together in the limited edition book, which will now be sold online in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Louise, a freelance graphic designer said: “Luis didn’t want the recipes to be lost forever. He had built up so much knowledge and skill over the years.

“He learnt a lot from his mum growing up, but most of his knowledge came from trying out different balances of ingredients, mixing techniques, oven temperature and baking times.

“For him it was a labour of love and I feel very thankful that I still have this part of him and can share it with others and help people bake great breads and cakes that he would love.”

Luis was a finalist on series five of the Great British Bake off in 2014 where he was a huge hit with viewers, presenters and the production team.

During his fight against cancer he was supported at home by

Macmillan nurses and passed away at East Cheshire Hospice.

The book contains over 40 recipes – three vegan – and is split into three sections devoted to cakes, bread, tarts and treats

Tips include how to make the perfect cupcakes and how to make a great sourdough loaf.

In a foreword Luis wrote: “I wanted to share everything in here with you all so it doesn’t get lost in the midst of time.

“On my journey I’ve learnt that cancer affects a lot of people in various ways, myself included.

“The only words of wisdom I can pass on is that if you ever don’t feel something isn’t right with your body go see your GP straight away and get checked out.”

Louise said: “Macmillan nurses helped Luis and me.

“They helped him understand what was happening as the cancer progressed and were just so lovely.

“He and I both needed that care and understanding at such a sad and difficult time.”

Liam Everett, from Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are very honoured and grateful to be able to sell Luis’ book through our Macmillan online store.”
