Care home team’s joy over good recovery

ADRAMATIC improvement has seen a care home that was branded inadequate earlier this year now rated as good.

Following a visit from Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors in July Weston Park, on Moss Lane, has also been taken out of special measures.

The home, which offers dementia care for around 100 residents, received further good ratings across categories of safety, effectiveness, responsiveness, leadership, and quality of care.

It marks a huge turnaround from the CQC report issued in February, which listed a lack of safe management of medicines, reliance on agency workers and an insufficient preemployment staff checks among its concerns.

This time the inspection report offered plenty of praise and follows the appointment of new manager Trish McCaffrey in February.

It highlighted more robust recruitment, improvements in managing medication and nutrition for residents as well as the care and support provided by staff.

Trish said: “Having the CQC recognise the hard work we have put into the home means a lot to all of us.

“The team at Cheshire East Council have been invaluable in supporting our improvement, and our good rating was only achieved because everyone had the same end goal.

“We are excited to build on our success and continue to make Weston Park a place where residents are involved in their care and their community, and where they feel truly at home.“

The report said residents were happy at the home and had ‘maximum choice and control of their lives.’

As part of work to improve an activities coordinator had been appointed, a resident-led garden redesign is taking place and the hairdressers is being refurbished.

The CQC said: “Governance was now more effective with robust systems in place to identify any areas of improvement needed.

“People felt safe living at Weston Park and felt wellsupported by the staff team.”
