We have to get real about climate change

-

I HAVE to admit I’m getting fed up with this whole climate change debate.

Yes, I know, such opinions are akin to spitting in church but if I can’t be honest with you, my friends, then who can I?

I really don’t think we are being honest with ourselves.

It’s all very good gluing yourself to the outside lane of the M6 until your keynote speaker arrives from LA firstclass courtesy of American Airlines and undermines everything you stand for.

When you watch those amazing David Attenborough documentaries about the planet do you really think Sir David and his highly paid production team turned their back on Heathrow and sailed and paddled around the globe?

Are we all going to forego eating meat and live off fruit and plants, if so then how many forests will we need to destroy to feed eight billion people? For every yin there is a yang.

You can forget going to Florida or visiting your relatives in Australia unless you can afford the time and sea-legs to sail there.

Very few families are going to wear second hand clothes or skirts hand-made from flax.

No one loves plastic and we won’t lose any sleep if it disappears from our life altogether neither will we shy-away from the occasional vegan delicacy but if anyone thinks plants will replace meat in our diet they are delusional.

Maybe, just maybe, there are people living on our planet who walk or cycle everywhere and prefer getting wet through to travelling in comfort, who have never eaten a meat pie, flown on an aeroplane, worn jeans or visited Disney.

If so, I suspect they could hold their annual meeting in an igloo.

We really need to get real.
