Flower Pot pull off shock of the round

- JIMMY SHELDON

LAST week saw the first round of group matches in the inaugural International Rules Super Cup.

All 24 International Rules teams were randomly drawn into groups of four, where they will play each other once with the six group winners and two best placed runners-up qualifying for the knockout stage.

There was change of fortune for A league leaders Silktown Snooker A, beaten by their fellow league compatriots

Flower Pot A in Group F, themselves still in search of their first league win.

Perhaps this will kick start their season? Either way there’s no question about Adam Jones’ form as he secures a vital bonus point for Flower Pot A on their way victory.

This ties him level in the 8 ball competition with Rick Podmore, Ash Roberts and Adam Downing all also on 2 so far this season.

Adam extended his form to his Macc Rules match on Thursday night too, where he made another 8 ball clearance to jointly lead the Macc Rules competition with the Lee Smith of the Ivy Leaf A.

Lee looked sharp this week too, only missing the final red ball in an 8 ball clearance attempt of his own, having done all the hard work opening up a particularly uninviting split off the break.

This leaves the Macc Rules A league still tight at the top, with just 3 points separating the top 3, and the Flower Pot B’s bonus points being the only thing keeping them out in front. Pack Horse A and Ivy Leaf A are chasing hard and continue their unbeaten start to the season.

8 BALL CLEARANCES

Adam Jones x 2 (Flower Pot A/B C/Rd.), Rick Podmore (Silktown Snooker B), Carl Ryder (Silktown Snooker C), Mac Stevens (Nags Head A)
