ASTAGGERING £19,000 has been raised thanks to a Macclesfield man’s 500 mile hike from his home town to Paris.

Henry Moores, 21, of Buxton Road, arrived at the Eiffel Tower on Friday, November 10, to complete his epic mission.

He had set off from Macclesfield Town Hall on October 21 for his charity challenge.

The money will be donated to charities and foodbanks that tackle loneliness and help those in need at Christmas.

Henry’s original target had been to raise £2,000 but - aided by his social media updates - the money flooded in and this week the total stood at £19,315.

Upon finishing he said: “Words honestly cannot describe what I am feeling right now, don’t ever let anyone tell you something is impossible.

“Follow your heart, never give up and make it happen. Thank you to everyone involved.”

Henry, who worked at

the Macclesfield Sainsbury’s for five years, was given an insight into just how vital charities are at

Christmas a few years ago.

He had visited his grandad in hospital and realised if he had not gone to

see him then he would have seen no one on Christmas Day.

So after leaving Sainsbury’s,

and before he began his next job, Henry thought it would be the perfect time to do something about it.

And he was so determined to cover every mile properly he even made the route longer to account for the distance covered by the Channel ferry.

Despite this he actually arrived at the Parisian landmark 21 days after setting off - two days ahead of schedule.

Henry said: “I recently left my job at Sainsbury’s to go travelling. Whilst on the trip, I felt a sense of unfulfilment and a desire to do something out of the ordinary.

“This gave me the idea to try and spread happiness on Christmas Day to those who may be unable to celebrate with others, who cannot afford gifts, and cannot afford a Christmas meal.“

Anyone wishing to add to Henry’s total can visit gofundme.com and search ‘Macclesfield to Paris charity walk’.

He plans further social media updates to show people how the money raised has benefitted others.
