Go-ahead given for new homes despite fears by town council
PERMISSION has been given to build new homes in Poynton despite fears of overdevelopment and a lack of parking.
A planning application from the Rodgers Partnership for a site on South Park Drive has been approved by Cheshire East Council.
It seeks to demolish an existing detached house and replace it with four others.
Earlier this year an application to demolish the existing house and build five later living flats was refused amid significant objections, including from Poynton Town Council.
The town council objected again, listing
more than 20 reasons.
Kate McDowell, deputy town clerk, said: “The proposed development, by virtue of its size, design and position relative to adjoining property, would be unduly dominant.
“It would result in a cramped and intrusive form of development out of keeping with the character of the existing properties.”
She also said the increased traffic could prove a threat to road safety and there would be an impact on privacy, wildlife and trees.
Eight residents objected, while three wrote to Cheshire East in support of the application.
One in favour said: “As a local resident there is a real shortage of properties of this kind with close access to the scenery the area has to offer.”
In approving the application the council said that there were no highway concerns as the amount of traffic generated by the development would be small and conditions could be imposed to ensure sufficient parking.
A report by planning officer Faye Plant said: “Overall, the proposed development is an acceptable design that will respond positively to the existing character of the surrounding area.
“The proposed dwellings are appropriately designed and will assimilate with existing development in the vicinity of the site. Previous reasons for refusal have been overcome as a result of this redesigned scheme.”
