Houses plan rejection preserves parking land
RESIDENTS will get to keep their parking land after a bid to build new homes on it was turned down.
Stuart McBeath had asked for planning permission to create two semi-detached houses on land off Toll Bar Avenue, in Macclesfield.
The area is currently used for off-road parking in a neighbourhood where there is already ‘extensive on-street parking’ according to Cheshire East Council.
And council planners ruled this, along with the potentially overbearing impact of the new homes and their height being greater than other nearby properties, were grounds for refusal.
Nick Hulland said in a report: “The design of the scheme is deemed to be at odds with the surrounding character and subsequently, would result in an unacceptable design. The proposed development would result in the displacement of off-street parking. This results in a highway and pedestrian safety concern.”
Residents from seven nearby homes had raised issues with the scheme.
One said: “The three storey houses are not inkeeping with the houses in the area - it would take away the privacy and natural light from my property.
“The avenue is already very congested and there is not enough parking for the existing properties.
“Access for work vehicles during the development would be extremely difficult.”
In his application Mr McBeath had said the properties would be set back from the road.
This was to allow off road parking for the residents in the new homes as well as a space each for properties number 3 and 5, who currently use the land.
