Freeze to fry, big weather swaps aren’t good for us

-

GREETINGS my wonderful friends. How are you feeling this fine sharp winter’s day?

I have just walked my new dog Dell up to the top of Tegg’s Nose.

I needed a couple of serious top coats walking up but no coat at all coming down as the sun was shining brighter than the Costa Del Sol.

I wonder how the rangers up there decide what to wear when they leave home for work?

“Doris…have you washed my thermal undies?

“Yes, of course I have. I did them with the dog blankets.”

“Well, change of plan… could you get my silk boxers for me, please? It’s wall-to-wall sunshine out there.”

One minute I’m turning my central heating up and next thing I’m turning it off.

This constant shift in temperature is not good for us and a major cause of winter colds. (I know because my doctor friend tells me so and he’s the font of all my knowledge.)

Now, I have good news for you.

Cheshire East are contemplating running their own care homes for the first time in a decade and I for one will be delighted.

Not because I’m on the waiting list (I’m not but I am getting close) but because they have standards and they care.

Of course, there are lots of excellent care homes around but they are mightily expensive and way beyond the reach of most families.

Cheshire East have a long record of caring and it’s not perfect but they really do care although I wish the council would stop reminding us we have an ageing population…that ageing population

has handed over a lot of tax over the years and now it’s payback time.

So, when you are wrestling with whether or not to wear your thermals or your flip-flops remember how much cash has been contributed by these Golden Oldies during their working years and be gracious (your turn will come soon enough).
