MBBC trio perform well on their travels

-

MACCLESFIELD Boys Boxing Club travelled to Cannock’s Bar Sports venue to get the girls out and competing. First up was Savannah Kiely against Destiny Angel from Walsall ABC.

The first round was great, these kids looked liked seasoned pros the way they moved about in the ring.

They both looked settled and comfortable, Savannah keeping to her boxing, straight shots in and out with phased attacks – great to watch.

In the second round Savannah’s opponent pushed forward herself, but Savannah was unfazed, dealt with it every time and came back stronger each time with cleaner and faster shots.

Round three saw Savannah throw a cracking overhand right which landed absolutely perfectly and the ref had to tell her to rein in her power. This was a blinding contest that the crowd appreciated, well done both girls, future champions in the making.

Next up was Lottie

Dean against a national champion with more

experience in Sophia Fagan from the Wild Star ABC of Cannock.

Sophia stood taller than Lottie as they touched gloves at the start of round one. This was a fast-paced round as Lottie went to work pushing Sophia onto the backfoot. Lottie was out-working her opponent as Sophia threw straight shots with her long range, trying her best to keep Lottie at the end of her shots.

Lottie was fired up and bossing the bout. In round

two Sophia worked a bit harder and used the ring more. This frustrated Lottie a bit as she tried to cut the ring off and nail Sophia with her back hand. Round two was much more even and showed why Sophia was a national champion.

Round three and Lottie was all fired up and intent on throwing some bombs, constantly pushing on to Sophia, throwing straight shots and hitting home.

Sophia was tiring as Lottie turned it up a notch and landed a good shot, the referee giving a first eight count Sophia, who looked a bit unstable.

The ref let the bout go on and Lottie was straight back to work and it wasn’t long before another cracking back hand hit home, another eight count but this time the ref called time. Lottie took the win by TKO, a cracking night with both boxers doing brilliantly.

The lack of bouts in our own region continued, so the club had no choice but to travel to keep the boxers busy, this time heading to Liverpool and the home off the Smith brothers’ boxing gym, Rotunda.

Liam Jay Hampton was having his first competitive bout against a fellow first-timer, Frazer Rosser from the home club.

Liam was as cool as a cucumber as they touched gloves and he went to work absolutely in control with great foot work, nice and relaxed, in and out punches well timed, great stance as he proceeded to pick his opponent off at will.

Frazer was no push over – Rotunda are a top club

with quality boxers – but Liam had the measure of his opponent.

Round two and Liam was growing in confidence, enjoying every minute, switched on and catching. This was a great contest, both kids showing some very mature boxing skills considering they where both 11 year olds.

Round three was probably Liam’s best round as he kept the pace going, never slowing down. He knew he had to out work and completely boss his opponent if had any chance off getting a win in Liverpool – both coaches had said leave nothing to chance, give it 100 per cent and that’s exactly what Liam did.

It showed when the judge’s decision came back unanimously in favour of Liam Jay Hampton, a fantastic result and well deserved at the end of a great bout. Well done all and shout out to Tommy Barnes and Sean White for taking him and having him in the right frame of mind to perform.
