More details are needed on ‘unsafe wall’ application
MORE DETAILS are needed ‘structurally unsafe’ wall that affects ‘numerous’ homes in central Macclesfield, planning bosses have said.
The problem parapet wall is said to be near houses, bunglaows and flats on Davies Street, Norton Street and Percyvale Street.
Property specialist firm Fortem submitted an application to Cheshire East Council for its removal in 2022.
But the bid was said to have ‘insufficient detail’ and the council has now decided to dispose of the application without making a decision, meaning the removal work does not have permission to go ahead.
In the meantime confusion over the unsafe wall continues.
One resident said of the application: “There is nothing on the planning documents to explain exactly what work the application for planning involves except ‘removal of structurally unsafe walls to numerous properties,’ which walls?
“Once removed are they being replaced? How? When?
“I live in one of the properties where walls are deemed unsafe so more information required please.”

Council also considered the proposals prior to a decision by Cheshire East.
Harriet Worrall, governance manager, said: “There was insufficient detail with the application for it to make a considered decision.” She added that the town council supported a request by Cheshire East’s conservation officer for further information and opinion there ‘needs to be a structural survey submitted to justify this action.’
To add further confusion the application says the removal work began in 2021 but has not been completed.
No additional documents or information from Fortem have been added to the council’s planning portal since the original application was lodged in February
2022.
Last week Cheshire East wrote to the company to advise of the course of action decided.
The letter said: “Should we not hear from you in writing within 14 days of the date of this letter, then the local planning authority will finally dispose of the application and no further action will be taken.”
