Confused over negative press for police supremo
I’M a mite confused about all the negative press our Police Commissioner is receiving.
I have been doing this job a long time and it’s true we have had some real ‘duds’ in charge of policing.
When we had clueless individuals with no previous experience on the job it was an unmitigated disaster more suitable for a Disney cartoon than fighting crime.
Let us have no doubt about it you cannot expect someone with little or no experience to run a police force of 2,000 officers any more than you could expect a Bobby to be principal dancer in Swan Lake.
Thankfully, we do have a hard-working Police Commissioner in John Dwyer, who knows what’s expected and is committed to the task. And thankfully, he is not a politician.
Personally, I do not know the man but I have been following his performance and he definitely is the ‘Real Deal.’
Anyone doing that job has a lot on his/her plate and finding suitable candidates is not easy (as we discovered previously). Now, as far as I can ascertain Commissioner John Dwyer’s ‘sin’ was to say he was surprised how short girls school skirts are today.
I’m guessing most of us would say that, it’s just the current fashion and every time it comes around (see mini-skirts) it receives the intended amount of attention.
Give it another couple of months and they will be dragging their skirts along the ground. It’s called ‘fashion’ and intended to ‘shock’ grown-ups.
So, can we just chillax and take it for what it is and not give it more attention than it deserves.
The Commissioner has a lot on his plate. Let him get on with it.
