‘Yes’ to planner’s bid to extend home

-

A COUNCIL planner has had proposals to extend his Macclesfield home approved by Cheshire East.

Julian Broadhurst, of Delamere Drive, was given permission by the northern area planning committee for the rear two-storey add on, plus work to outbuildings.

His application attracted an objection from ward councillor Sarah Bennett-Wake, questioning the scheme’s measurements and potential for overlooking, as well as from four fellow residents.

Public consultation also brought forward four general comments raising issues such as the height of the extension, and three letters of support saying the work would improve the area.

The planning committee approved the application, which also seeks to demolish three garages, build one replacement and also knock down another outhouse.

It came after Mr Broadhurst made amendments including lowering the ridge and eaves of the new garage and reducing the height of windows.

A report to the committee from a planning officer said: “The development is considered to be acceptable in terms of its impact upon the residential amenities of the neighbouring residential properties.

“(It) will not detract from the character and appearance of the site, its surroundings or the wider conservation areas.”

Residents were divided on this though.

One neighbour said: “The proposed two storey extension will seriously and negatively impact upon my right to light to the rear of my property.”

But another neighbour said there was no privacy issue and the area would be improved.

Mr Broadhurst had said the extension and garage were comparable to others in the area and the latter would be in part screened by other buildings.

Household extension applications are usually decided by planning officers but this was sent to a public committee because it involved a council staff member.
