Residents and staff celebrate 20 years of care home

-

CARE home staff celebrated its 20th anniversary with five who have been there for two decades to clock up a combined 100 years.

Genesis Care Home, on Peter Street, Macclesfield, marked the occasion with residents. It opened on March 4, 2004.

There was live entertainment, karaoke and a buffet rustled up by chef Tony Massey.

In addition the five long-serving staff received flowers and were thanked in a speech by home manager Sharon Bannister.

They were housekeeper Irene Herbert, senior care assistant Susan Crawshaw, carers Carrie Mountford and Linda Higginson, and care assistant Margaret Grundy.

Irene, 76, started on the very first day Genesis opened.

She said: “They do say that time flies, it certainly has I don’t know where the last 20 years have gone.

“I was one of the first employees and my job was to prepare for the opening.

“The home was in need of a thorough clean due to the ground floor

still basically a building site. There wasn’t even a dining room at that time.

“We opened our doors to the first four residents with everything in place that was needed. Now 20 years later we have 42 residents.

“Genesis has been a big part of my life for the last 20 years. [But] I think it may be time to retire before I am mistaken for a resident.”

Susan began working at the home a month after it opened.

She added: “We have made lots of

memories, happy, sad and hard but we got through it working as a ‘team’ giving love to older people that they deserve.

“We are their extended family which is very rewarding, 20 years has gone so fast.“
