Retiring owners put award-winning pub up for sale

-

AN AWARD-winning village pub is up for sale after the couple who have owned it for the last 24 years announced plans to retire.

The Poachers Inn, on Ingersley Road, Bollington, is currently on the market for £795,000.

The popular venue, which is also serves food, has featured in the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Good Pub Guide for more than 20 years and back in 2022 was awarded ‘Pub of the Season.’

It is renowned for its window boxes and hanging baskets which have also led to the pub winning a trio of ‘Bollington in Bloom’ awards over the years.

Owners Rob and Helen Ellwood said: “Living in such a wonderful area with an amazing supportive community has made it a pleasure to call The Poachers home for the last 24 years.

“However, we now feel it’s time to move on and allow the business to continue to thrive under new ownership.”

Keith Stringer, director at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale, was quick to point out the pub’s potential for would-be buyers.

He explained: “This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a popular business in an affluent North West village.”

The pub played a key role in the community during the Covid pandemic, holding quizzes and keeping in touch with clientele.

The hard work put into keeping a support network in place for the community was recognised by CAMRA, who awarded the pub a Lockdown Hero Award.

At the time of the honour Helen, who is also on Bollington Town Council, said, ‘we have always participated and try to integrate ourselves into Bollington and make this very special village even more special.’
