MACCLESFIELD put on an impressive display in front of a bumper crowd on Saturday afternoon, securing a 3-1 victory over a 10-man FC United of Manchester in the penultimate home game of the season.
Laurent Mendy fired the Silkmen ahead after 20 minutes, before Jan Palinkas tied things up on the stroke of half-time from close range.
Fortunately for Macc, the second half saw goals from Kane Drummond and Sam Heathcote claim all three points, with Reds substitute Paul Ennis seeing red late on after picking up two yellow cards in four minutes.
A steady start to the game saw both sides contest for possession but were unable to pose any immediate threat.
The first chance of the game arrived after 12 minutes and saw Neil Kengni curl a faultless left-footed cross into the centre, which Kane Drummond was able to connect with on the penalty spot but couldn’t quite get enough on it to trouble George Murray-Jones.
Luke Duffy was next to test the United ‘keeper, curling a low effort from the edge of the area towards the bottom right corner that Murray-Jones was able to comfortably hold after getting down quickly.
But the deadlock was soon broken after Mendy fired the hosts ahead.
After Duffy’s corner ball was headed back into the centre by Paul Dawson, Mendy caught the dipping ball well by hitting a firsttimed volleyed effort into the roof of the net, leaving Murray-Jones helpless.
