Chloe sets new record at meet
Platt sets the tone for successful weekend
Maidenhead Swimming Club’s Chloe Platt set a new meeting record as she swept through the water to victory in the 50m breaststroke in the first weekend of the Counties 2020 championships. It was a busy weekend for the u12s/13s swimmer, who also won a silver in the 100m freestyle and a bronze in the 50m freestyle.
Louise Ashford set the tone for the club during the first weekend of competition by winning the u15s 800m freestyle event.
Ethan Charley was also in fine form, winning gold in the u12s 200m fly and silver medals in the 200m, 400m, 800m free and 200m breaststroke.
He then capped off an impressive weekend with a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley (IM).
Johnny Ireland and Oliver Cook battled to keep up with Ethan, with Ireland taking silvers in
the 50m, 100m backstroke and 200m fly, and bronze in the 400m free.
Cook was also on the podium thanks to a bronze medal display in the 200m free.
In the same age group there were lifetime best times for Sebastian Canton in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, while Oren Staines was the third best junior in his u13s age group after solid swims in the 800m free. He also won a bronze in the 100m backstroke.
Emilia Duell impressed on her debut for the club, taking gold in a close fought u10s/11s 100m freestyle race.
The club’s swimmers also impressed in the relay events, with Anton Supov and Jake Foster teaming up with Charley and Staines to take bronze in the boys u12s/13s 4x100m freestyle.
At u15s level Amelia Bell won the 200m backstroke and picked up a
bronze in the 100m fly. Alongside her was Lola Mateos Cantero, who took gold in the 400m IM and tapped home just ahead of Amelia to take silver in the 100m fly, as well as bronze in the 100m free.
Ben Phillips was the club’s fly guy this weekend, taking silver in the u14s 200m fly and bronze in the 50m fly. He was also third in the JR Category.
William Dean took gold in the u15s 100m breast and silver in the 200m, while Hayden Netherwood swam out of his skin to win silver in the boys u17s 800m free.
The weekend was capped off in fine style with Karina Andrea taking silver with a season’s best time in the u16s 50m breaststroke.
Team Maidenhead swimmers reached 41 finals, won eight gold medals, 13 silver medals and 13 bronze medals, and set one meet record.
