Woman scammed out of £1,000 at leisure centre

-

WINDSOR: Thames Valley Police is warning residents of a new scam after a disabled woman was conned out of £1,000 at Windsor Leisure Centre car park.

The woman was approached by two young men who told her there was now a £1 charge to park in a disabled place at the Leisure Pool.

When she handed them the cash the men informed her the payment had to be made by card.

They then lifted the card reader out of her view and appeared to be attempting to use the card reader before saying it didn’t work and asked if she had another card they could use.

After handing over a second card, the men said the payment and been successful and left.

When the woman returned home later in the day, she discovered she had been charged £500 on two separate cards.

The police have asked residents to be aware there has been no change to disabled parking regulations and both of the men, while seemingly friendly and well-mannered, were scammers.
