Bartley looking to bolster his attack

Marlow FC: Blues boss on 'relentless' hunt to find a new goalscorer

-

Mark Bartley says Marlow will need to be the best side in the division in the second half of the season if they are to achieve a place in the play offs. But the Blues boss admits his first objective is finding a frontman to fire his side up the table.

On Saturday, Marlow played out a goalless draw against Waltham Abbey. Kameron English had a chance to break the deadlock for the Blues but saw his penalty saved in what was a game of squandered chances.

Bartley said that while the point is encouraging against top half opposition, his side should have been capable of grabbing all three.

“I think we had the better chances. We missed a penalty and a couple of other opportunities. We feel as though we had the better chances to win it but we’ve come away with a point against a side that have been on decent form.

“We know that over the second half of the season, we need to be the best side in the division for us to make the play offs and that’s what we’re focused on doing. But we need to score more goals.”

Marlow boss Mark Bartley is keen to find a front man who can fire the Blues up the South Central table in the coming months.

Nnamdi Nwachuku’s departure from Oak Tree Road to Cambridge City has left Marlow down to the bare bones in terms of forward options. Nwachuku joins the Isthmian League North side having scored three goals in three appearances for Bartley’s Blues. But with Charlie Samuel currently suspended, the Blues are in desperate need of a striker to bolster their front line and Bartley admits it will be a challenge to find someone suitable.

“I do think we need someone in that area.

“Looking at what Nnamdi brought when he came in, I think having someone that can score goals at the rate that he does is clearly a significant advantage.

“We’ve got some good options in terms of Arash Abdollahi who’s just come in. But we’re definitely looking for that natural box player that can score goals and I’m trying relentlessly to get one in.”
