Differing results for Marlow’s 1sts

-

Marlow Men’s and Ladies first teams both met teams riding high at the top of their respective divisions, but they had rather differing results.

The men lacked nothing for spirit in their match against a strong Reading 2nds, but came unstuck in the latter stages of their 5-1 defeat.

The visitors had done well to restrict Reading to just a single goal in the first half and levelled matters through Sam North’s goal from a penalty corner in the second half. The game remained level for a while, but Reading broke swiftly to score four late goals. Fortunately for Marlow, second placed Amersham & Chalfont also lost this weekend leaving them just a point behind them in third. Reading are now well away at the top of the table.

In contrast the ladies achieved probably their best result of the season as they held runaway league leaders Hampstead & Westminster 2nds to a goalless draw.

They remain sixth in South League Division 1.

Elsewhere the men’s 2nd team were beaten 3-2 away at Oxford 2nds, Dan Bradley and Dan Field netting their goals.

Marlow remain just ahead of Oxford in fourth place.

The 3rds continued their recent recovery with a 2-1 win over Wycombe 3rds but the 4ths lost 4-1 away at Eastcote 4ths. The 5ths went down 4-2 to Reading University 5ths but the 6ths beat Harrow 3-2 away from home.

The ladies 2nds drew 1-1 with Banbury 1sts away. The 3rds were 3-2 winners over Thame 1sts at home and the 4ths defeated Maidenhead 3rds 2-0 at home.

The 5ths beat Aylesbury 2nds 2-1 away and the 6th team were 3-2 winners at Oxford’s eighth team.

They’re now 11 points clear at the top of their league.
