Acquah brought in to satisfy a thirst for goals

-

Maidenhead United have signed Southend United centre forward Emile Acquah on an initial one month loan, as manager Alan Devonshire makes another move to bring more goals to his side.

Top scorer Danny Whitehall has netted 18 times in all competitions for the Magpies this season, but there haven’t been many others to shoulder the burden.

However, in the last few weeks Devonshire has taken steps to address this with the arrivals of Ody Alfa from

QPR and now Acquah from Southend United.

It's been a month of comings and goings at York Road with Jake Cassidy and Bernard Mensah leaving the club for permanent deals at Stevenage FC and Gloucester City. Mensah - who moved on late last week - had been on the periphery of Devonshire's first team for much of the campaign, being mainly used off the bench as a substitute.

However, the 25-year-old did score his first goal for the club in their recent 5-2 defeat to Halifax Town, a screamer of a consolation in the final minutes.

Acquah (above) is only 19 years old but broke into the Shrimpers squad at the end of last season and netted his first goal for Sol Campbell's side against League 1 promotion contenders Ipswich Town back in October.

The 6'3ft striker has since enjoyed a successful loan spell with Isthmian Premier League outfit Harlow Town.

Chief Scout Lee Devonshire told the club's website: "Emile is a powerful centre-forward who is 19 but physically looks a lot older.

"All at Maidenhead United would like to welcome Emile and we wish him the very best of luck during his spell at York Road."

Utility man Aron Davies has also gone out of the club on loan, joining National League South side Hemel Hempstead Town, subject to ratification from the National League. Davies has made 14 starts for the Magpies in all competitions this season and will join Freddie Grant, who is also at Vauxhall Road on a temporary basis.
