Fine margins cost Cooper’s Royalists

Windsor fire seven past Saints but then lose 1-0 to City

-

Adam McNamara scored a brace for the Royalists in Windsor's 7-2 victory against Brackley Town Saints.

Windsor manager Mark Cooper put Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Reading City down to just being ‘one of those nights’, but overall he wasn’t too displeased with his side’s display.

McKoy Palmer’s 32nd minute strike was enough to separate the two teams on the night and for the visitors to claim ample revenge for their loss to Cooper’s side earlier in the season.

For the Royalists it was a night of frustration in which decisions went against them, and Cooper felt the hosts should have been awarded a penalty on the stroke of half-time when Billy Montague was fouled by Michael Butcher.

“We were very frustrated to come away from the game without anything,” said Cooper.

“We’ve hit the bar twice and had a stonewall penalty turned down which was the clearest cut penalty I’ve probably seen all season.

“Nothing was on for us last night (Tuesday).

“They had one shot at goal and scored.

“These were the fine margins and games can be like that.

“We’re not displeased with the performance. We were playing the right way and creating chances. We just needed to add a bit of quality in the final third.

“Sometimes it drops for you, but last night it didn’t.”

Cooper was hoping to see his side match Saturday’s display against Brackley Town Saints, when they won 7-2 thanks to goals from Montague (three), Adam McNamara (two) and Tomas Kalinauskas (two). The Royalists are next in action at Long(From left to right) Tomas Kalinauskas, Keaton August, Sam Street, Adam McNamara and Billy Montague.

levens on Saturday. Kick-off 3pm.

“We were delighted with Saturday,” added Cooper. “I thought we were superb and it was a great all round performance that we dominated from start to finish.

“Because of that, we were very frustrated to come away without anything last night.

“It was a similar week to when we drew with Westfields, who are top of the league, and then lost against Flackwell in a game where we should’ve got something more. There was plenty of time to recover for the midweek game.

“I’m certainly not going to make any excuses because we’ve got a fit squad and a squad that we’re happy with.

“We’re playing the right way and last night was just one of those nights.

“We’ve now got an away game against Longlevens on Saturday so that’ll be a chance to get back at it and try to get some points.”
