Win will spark our recovery, says Whitehall

-

Maidenhead United striker Danny Whitehall hopes Saturday's 2-0 victory over Eastleigh can spark an improvement in form that lifts the club to safety in the National League.

Saturday's win was the club's first of the new year, and, for a few days at least lifted them to 18th, four points clear of the bottom four ahead of Saturday's trip to Solihull Moors.

Whitehall, who coolly slotted home an early penalty before turning home Josh Kelly's cross in the 32nd minute to wrap up victory, described the win over the Spitfires as 'massive' for the Magpies.

It also saw the club leapfrog Eastleigh, something that was in the forefront of the players' minds ahead of kick-off.

He said: “It’s massive. Obviously we knew before the game that if we were to beat them, we’d go above them (in the league). So that’s all the motivation we needed there for that one.”

“You’ve seen this season that when we’ve gone on runs, if we get beat, we get beat by a few games and if we’re winning or drawing, we carry that on for quite a few games. So hopefully that continues now and a bit longer in the coming games.”

“There’s been a few times now this season that I’ve only got two of them (goals) but I’m not really going to complain if I score two and we win 2-0.”

Looking ahead to the Magpies next league match at Solihull, Whitehall added: “We beat them at home this year so they will be not be taken any chances and they’ll be well prepared as will we. We’ll see what we can do on the day and hopefully we’ll be on the right side of a good result.”
