Royals set up Blades test after shootout win

Reading FC

-

Reading FC progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup in the most dramatic of circumstances, beating Cardiff City on a penalty shoot out after their replay finished 3-3 following extra-time.

The Royals battled back from a two-goal deficit at the Cardiff City Stadium after

Josh Murphy and Robert Glatzel had got the Bluebirds flying. But goals from Omar Richards and Andy Rinomhota took the tie to extra-time and the Royals hit back again in the added 30 minutes as Yakou Meite’s goal cancelled out another from Murphy.

From the spot Cardiff were wasteful and Reading were flawless and a 4-1 win sets up a fifth round home tie against inform Sheffield United.

The Royals also made a couple of useful additions to their squad last week, as they look to continue their push up the Championship table.

Ahead of their 1-1 draw with Cardiff in the league on Saturday manager Mark Bowen swooped to bring in Brazilian midfielder Felipe Araruna from Sao Paulo on a permanent deal and winger Ayub Masika on loan from Beijing Renhe. Arauna has signed a deal to keep him at the Madejski Stadium until 2022.

Bowen said: “Felipe looks like a really bright, young talent who can play in two or three different position. Rightback, on the right side of midfield and as a defensive central midfielder.

“He’s got those Brazilian qualities – the ball is his friend! I spoke with him when he arrived in the country this morning and he is a clever kid with a good personality and his English is very good.”
