Something to sing about
Maidenhead: Community choir receives £500 funding boost from Baylis Trust
A community choir has received a £500 funding boost from the Louis Baylis Trust to help it put on a virtual performance during lockdown.
Members of Voices Anon would normally meet weekly at St Piran’s School to sing, socialise and improve their vocal skills.
But the group has been forced to switch its rehearsals online due to the coronavirus crisis.
Musical director Dr Guy Bunce has devised online rehearsals where each member sings in the safety of their own home while he conducts and musical accompaniment is provided.
With live musical shows currently postponed, Dr Bunce is also planning a virtual performance which will blend everyone’s voices together into a rousing piece of music.
A donation from the Advertiser’s owner will help fund this project.
Richard Johnson, chairman of Voices Anon, said: “It looks fairly straightforward when you see it but because of the time lag of the different broadband connections you can’t all sing together.
“It is difficult when you’re singing in your own home and singing to yourself, it takes a bit of getting used to but most of the members that have signed up to the choir have been happy doing it.”
The weekly rehearsals have also given members a chance to socialise while being confined to their own homes during the third national lockdown.
He added: “It does give people a huge boost and this term we’ve got 55 people that have signed up.
“We’re keeping that momentum going because people so look forward to it.”
