Grant will help club keep going

-

The Berkshire Brigands, a mixed ability rugby team based at Reading RFC, has been awarded a £1,000 grant by Cash4Clubs to help keep going through the coronavirus pandemic.

Cash4Clubs is a grassroots sports scheme set up to support clubs and ensure they can continue their important work to keep members of their community active through the

COVID crisis.

The Brigands welcome players with learning disabilities, autism and other barriers to play alongside those without such barriers in a mixed and inclusive environment.

The scheme has recognised the impact COVID-19 has had on club’s finances. Some of the money will be put towards new Berkshire Brigands team shirts.

Brigands co-founder Craig Hunter was delighted to hear the team was set to benefit from the grant. He said: “Reading RFC in conjunction with Berkshire RFU & IMAS (International Mixed Ability Sports) started Berkshire’s first Mixed Ability Rugby Team who are a community team welcoming players with learning disabilities, autism and other barriers, and those without, from 17 years and above. This grant will enable us to purchase a new team strip and first aid equipment. “
