Lincoln brothers to join Slough after leaving Finchampstead
Dan Lincoln, who played for Middlesex in the Vitality Blast last year and is a regular in the Berkshire county side, has joined Slough Cricket Club. And he will be accompanied by his younger brother Josh, writes Dave Wright.
Although their names have not yet appeared among the club's players on the Play-Cricket website, their registrations have been confirmed by the
Home Counties Premier League.
A bold-hitting batsman and a very useful fielder, Dan had played at Finchampstead since a young boy, but it is understood he was tempted away by an attractive financial package.
The 25-year-old had a one-year contract with Middlesex last year, but that has not been renewed for 2021, although he hopes another first-class county will come in for him.
Allrounder Josh has also decided to follow him to Upton Court Park as he prefers to play in the same side as his brother.
"We understand their reasons for leaving and we wish them well," commented John Reed, the Finchampstead secretary. "The whole family have contributed so much to the club, both on and off the field and they are going to be badly missed."
The pair will be dropping down a division as Slough now find themselves in Division Two of the HCPL following their relegation in 2019, but hope signing quality players like the Lincoln pair will see them bounce straight back up to the top division where they feel they belong.
Dan is a regular in the Berkshire county side and also played in midweek games for Middlesex 2nds.
In seasons 2016 to 2019, he accumulated a total of 2,105 runs in HCPL matches at an average of 50.12. He made one ton and 19 half-centuries.
There were no official averages for last season as the league did not operate in its usual two-division format due to the pandemic, switching to a combined cup competition for all teams.
The 25-year-old Dan has played for Berkshire since 2012, accumulating more than 800 runs in championship games, helping them to win the title four years in a row whilst also lifting the national 50/50 and T20 titles during the same period.
Having made his 1st XI debut in 2017, Josh totalled 632 league runs for the club at an average of 18.59, whilst he took a total of 38 wickets at an average of 27.58.
Dan is also a talented football, having played for Reading FC as a junior before going on to appear for a number of non-league clubs, the latest being Harrow Borough, members of the Southern League Premier South Division.
