Devonshire ready to do battle with Boreham Wood at York Road

-

Alan Devonshire says the Magpies are preparing for ‘a battle’ as Maidenhead United welcome Boreham Wood to York Road this Saturday.

The Magpies boss is confident about his team’s chances of victory having overcome Halifax Town at the weekend 3-2. Danilo Orsi-Dadomo and Josh Coley were both on the scoresheet with the latter scoring Maidenhead’s winning goal from the bench.

They were due to get straight back into action on Tuesday evening against lowly-placed Wealdstone but the match was postponed after a night of heavy rain waterlogged the Grosvenor Vale pitch. With a packed schedule ahead of them, Devonshire hopes his side can maintain their momentum.

“I’m delighted with the way the boys have performed over the last week,” he said. “I thought we showed a lot of character against Halifax. We lead twice, were pegged back twice, but we were still able to go on with Coley grabbing the winner.

“We would have liked to start him, of course, but he’s had tonsillitis and we’re easing him back slowly. He’s a good player so we’re just making sure we’re not bringing him back too quickly only for him to pull up injured with all the games we’ve got coming up for the next eight weeks.

“I’m hoping I can get Josh Kelly more involved too. It’s been a long time for him to get close [to the team]. He’s had a couple of niggling injuries and then a more serious one in the last game he played for us. It was a bad whack on the knee and it’s taken time to heal. I’m sure we will start to include him more soon.

“We’re just trying to manage our boys as best we can. We’ve got to try and protect them with all the games we’ve got coming up on Saturdays and Tuesdays. We’re buzzing at the moment and I would have liked to have had the game against Wealdstone but it didn’t happen for us,” added Devonshire.

“We’ll just have to move on quickly and prepare for a very difficult game this Saturday against Boreham Wood. I’m sure it’s going to be a battle.”
