Rising star King returns to the top step of the podium at Silverstone

-

Rising star Harry King returned to the top step of the podium at Silverstone with a second victory of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season, writes Ben Hart.

Harry claimed his second win of the campaign and secured an extra point for the fastest lap, as he closed the gap on the top three in the standings.

Victory in race one was the perfect response from the reigning champion following disappointment at Croft the previous week.

Despite losing a time to track limits during the qualifying session, Harry registered the third fastest time, less than two-tenths of a second away from pole. Making up a spot when the race kicked off to move into second place, Harry was looking to find a way ahead of Lorcan Hanafin when an incident elsewhere resulted in a lengthy caution period.

On the restart, Harry shadowed Hanafin until lap 16 when he nipped ahead at Brooklands to secure the lead.

As Harry edged away, a second incident elsewhere halted proceedings and as a result ensured victory.

Despite a fourth-place finish in race two, the points accumulated over the weekend allowed Harry to make up ground in the standings.

His attention now turns to Donington Park next month, as he sits just ten points off the top three.

"It's been a mixed weekend all told as we didn't quite maximise qualifying which left me with some work to do in race one, but I was able to come through well to grab the win and also the extra point for fastest lap," he said.

"I have mixed emotions as I wanted to try and repeat my double success from twelve months ago, but it's good to have been back on the top step and I'll be chasing more wins when we head to Donington Park next time out."
