Kane laments second half performance

Kane Ferdinand insists Maidenhead United’s players must work harder in training to improve themselves in attack and defence following their loss to

King’s Lynn Town.

The Magpies midfielder opened the scoring inside four minutes on Saturday with a near identical goal to the one he scored against Grimsby Town a week prior, assisted by Shaun Donnellan.

But despite the hosts’ dominance in the first half, they became a completely different outfit in the second and conceded three goals after the interval as the Linnets took control of the tie.

After the match, Ferdinand said: “As you can imagine, I’m feeling pretty bad right now.

“We were 1-0 up at halftime and well in control of the game – there wasn’t any real danger. From my point of view, we conceded some easy goals which allowed them to take the lead.

“For us to get back into it late on, only to concede again, is a kick in the teeth. But, that’s the way things are going for us lately.

“We can’t give away the goals we’re giving away and expect anything. We were playing 4-4-2 so we had two strikers on the pitch who should’ve got some goals. I guess it was one of those days where it wasn’t quite dropping.”

Ferdinand added: “I think we need to work on our corners and getting more bodies in the box. We’re obviously still not good enough from a defensive point of view too.

“Credit to the fans, they were loud, and they kept singing until the end.

“They gave us the energy we needed.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t do it for them, but we will look to put things right.”
