Royalists rue missed chances as they’re held by bottom of the table Tadley

-

Windsor were left ruing missed chances as they were held by bottom of the table Tadley Calleva in the Combined Counties Premier Division North.

The Royalists returned to league action on Saturday after a heavy 5-1 defeat to Wellingborough Whitworth in the FA Vase.

An early goal from Charlie Jaggers looked to have got the hosts off to a perfect start but a deflected strike from Brett Denham drew the visitors level before Jordan Goater added a second before half-time.

A change of shape at the break reaped immediate rewards for boss Mark

Cooper as Lindell Stewart equalised in the 46th minute.

But try as they might, Windsor could not find a way past their dogged opposition and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Cooper told the Advertiser: “We started playing 35-2 and they were playing one up-front so essentially they were overloading us in other areas which enabled them to get a good foothold in the game and didn’t enable us to be as offensive as we wanted to be.

“Second half we went 4-33 and were able to get our wide players on the ball and create overloads.

“I don’t remember our keeper making a save outside of the two goals they scored. They worked tirelessly and kept going right to the end and frustrated us.

“Obviously it was a game we were looking to win, they’re a side at the bottom of the table and we should be looking to win those games.”

The Royalists face a trip to North London on Saturday to face Enfield-based St Panteleimon who have been climbing the nonleague ladder over recent seasons.

Cooper said he is expecting a ‘huge challenge’ and is expecting to field new centre-half pairing Josue Antonio and Nathan White following their encouraging debuts against Tadley Calleva.

The Windsor boss added: “It’s always a little bit challenging when you’ve got a pair of centre halves who have never played with each other before but they came in and did well and will play again Saturday all being well.

“We need to get ourselves right defensively. We’ve kept one clean sheet all season and that’s cost us. We need to get back to a settled back four and start keeping clean sheets and picking up points again.”
